Where are the prints made?
In the studio's own workshop in Anjos, Lisbon — the same place the XYZ books are made. Every print is made one file at a time by the person who runs the machines, and checked by hand before it leaves.
What files can I upload?
TIFF, JPEG, PNG, PSD, PDF, HEIC or BMP, in any colour space. Large files go up in pieces, so a slow connection can carry on where it stopped. Before you pay, the order wizard says so when a file would print under the recommended resolution, or arrives with no colour profile.
What does a print cost?
It depends on the paper and the size. The price calculator runs the same engine as the order wizard: pick a paper, type a size, read the price with VAT. Nothing is quoted by hand for a standard print.
Which papers can I choose?
Cotton rag and baryta fibre papers, gloss, luster and pearl photo papers, Japanese washi, canvas and transparent film — all archival, acid-free and colour-managed for pigment ink, with the studio's own ICC profile for each one, free to download. The full list is on the papers page.
Is the printing colour-managed?
End to end. Screens, printers and papers are calibrated and profiled in the studio, we build our own ICC profile for every paper we stock, and a print is soft-proofed — and test-stripped where it matters — before the full run. What you approve is what comes off the machine.
Can I download your ICC profiles?
Yes. Every paper's page carries the studio's own profile as a download (XYZPRINTS_<paper>.icc). Soft-proof against it before ordering and you will see on screen what the paper will do with your file.
Which papers do you keep in stock?
Certified archival stock from the mills whose names you already know — Hahnemühle, Canson Infinity, Awagami and Fedrigoni — alongside our own XYZ White Velvet. Acid-free, ISO 9706 museum quality where the mill states it, and colour-managed for pigment ink. The full list, with weights and prices, is on the papers page.
Do you ship worldwide?
Yes — from Lisbon, Portugal, rolled in a tube or flat in a box depending on the size.
Can I return a print?
Prints are made to order — your image, your size, your paper — and under EU and Portuguese law custom-made goods are excluded from the 14-day right of withdrawal. Anything faulty, damaged in transit or not as described is put right: the returns policy sets out how and by when to tell us.
Do you scan film?
Yes. High-resolution scanning on the Imacon Flextight, 35 mm to 4×5″, up to 8000 DPI and 16-bit, with contact sheets on the Epson V750. Drop the film off at the studio or send it by post — see film scanning.
Can you photograph a painting or an object?
Yes — with professional scanners and a high-end medium-format digital camera under studio lighting, 50 or 100 Mp, 16-bit ProPhoto RGB, for limited-edition prints, catalogues or archiving. See reproduction of artworks.
I have many files, an exhibition or an edition. How do I order?
Tell us about the project on the large order form and we reply within 24 hours; you then get a personal upload link, and we review the files and send a quote before anything is printed.
Can I visit the studio?
Yes, by appointment — book a visit and see the papers in person before you print.
